Board-certified physician and surgeon with over 38 years of clinical experience in the US and overseas in Africa and Haiti; he obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 1979. He brings the competence and compassion of having worked with people in the most impoverished parts of the world.
Sandra Kay Johnson
These credentials coupled with her twenty years of development projects in rural Africa have helped her prepare for service in Philadelphia. The projects she oversaw in Kenya included building clinics, schools, and digging wells, overseeing agricultural development, providing famine relief and healthcare for orphans.
Dr. Corneilius D. Pitts
PharmD, CMTM, RPh President, Pharmaceutical Care Director & Board Member
Dr. Cornelius Pitts is a founding director of Miriam Medical Clinics. He also directs the Pharmaceutical Care Program at Miriam and academic affiliations with Temple University and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.. Dr. Pitts is a graduate of the University of the Sciences’ Philadelphia College of Pharmacy having earned both his Undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees at that institution. Dr. Pitts served in various capacities at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals for 26 years, including as a director of neuroscience clinical research. He served on the Board of the Health Promotions Council of Philadelphia and was chair of the NAACP Health Committee. Currently, Dr. Pitts is Director of the COVID-19 Vaccination Project at the Temple University, Lewis Katz School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He also teaches Global Health at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and is affiliated with Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.
William King Jr.
Dr. King graduated from Wayne State Medical School in Detroit, Michigan, and completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, MD. For over three decades, he has provided Obstetrical and Gynecological services to Philadelphia’s underserved urban population through private practice. He has also served as i) clinical faculty member of Hahnemann University Hospital; ii) gynecological physician consultant at Girard Medical Center Prison and Detention Center, iii) Director of Laboratory Procedures and Director of Sexually Transmitted Diseases for Men and Women at American Men and Women Services, State College, PA and iv) Director of Women’s Health-Veterans Administration in Tacoma, Washington. Dr. King devotes many hours volunteering as a patient advocate providing educational resources and support to patients and their families to facilitate their understanding of medical problems.
Nurse Exum has a wealth of experience working within the Philadelphia community over 30 years. Jackie began her training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and completed her Masters in nursing at Eastern University. She served as a school nurse allowing her to minister to many children and families facing various challenges. Jackie has served in over 16 nations as a medical missionary and brings exceptional compassion to Miriam Medical Clinics.
Nursing Director & Board Member
Nurse Imms is a Clinical Research Coordinator and Psychiatric Nurse with the University of Pennsylvania Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety. She has practiced as a psychiatric nurse for over 30 years and has conducted clinical research in depressive and anxiety disorders for the past 20 years. Recognized as an expert in patient relations, counseling and behavioral issues, she brings vital resources to address psychiatric disorders often overlooked in our communities.
